PLOT SUMMARY

Set in Washington State in the year 2020, society copes with the coronavirus pandemic, which has killed millions of people and infected millions more. Disgraced government scientist, Dr. Clayton Decker, creates an experimental cure for the coronavirus, which inadvertently transforms people into ravenous zombies who infect others with their bite.

As zombies run rampant in the Seattle area, the outbreak of the new zombievirus complicates the United States government’s efforts of creating and testing the coronavirus cure. Dr. Jennifer Walton is tasked with coming up with a cure for the zombievirus in addition to testing the coronavirus cure.

In light of Decker’s testing malfunction, the government is wary of what other consequences the pursuit of a cure may have on the nation. Dr. Walton is instructed to test the cure extensively before it is approved for general use.

When a Washington military base containing nuclear weapons — the Strategic Weapons Facility Pacific — is taken over by zombies, Supreme Commander Tony Riker succumbs to the virus and provides the country with an ultimatum that will call the government’s testing policy into question.

Desperate to save innocent lives, Garrett Sanderson, the son of Washington State governor Debra Sanderson, recruits his best friends, Kara Lancaster and Quinn Porter, to help him steal the cure from the government and take down Commander Riker and his army of zombie soldiers.

While on the run from the cops — and his mom — Garrett and his friends must find a way to stop Riker before his deadline, or millions of Americans will die.

BEHIND THE SCENES

I began writing the script for First Strike in June of 2020, with the goal of producing a feature-length film to practice what I have learned about the filmmaking process so far. Filming took place from July to late August, which was by far the most fun (and most stressful) part of the process. Getting to work with my friends and family on this project was an amazing experience, even though we had a time limit imposed by my college move-in date.

From late August to mid-November, I devoted myself to editing the movie into its final product while balancing other responsibilities at school. Although I ran into many challenges while creating this film, and there are many imperfections that couldn’t have been avoided due to time constraints, I have learned much from the experience and hope to polish up those imperfections in my next film.

I have learned an incredible amount of valuable lessons about the filmmaking process in all three phases: preproduction, production, and postproduction. I am so excited to apply these lessons to my next project and further improve on them.
